Are you bored to
death waiting in a seemingly never-ending line of movie-goers queued to get
their tickets? Are you getting impatient waiting for your party-sized pizza to
be served to you at Shakey’s? Are you always updated with the latest versions
of Gaming PC/Xbox/Play Station/or whatever is available in the market? Or maybe you’re doing something productive
playing a decent game with your Mac (no offense, Macs are terrible for gaming,
sorry comrade)?
Of course, you
can’t bring your massive gaming computer to the newest restaurant just nearby
town, but hey, at least you got your phone (or tablet/iPad) with you.
Never underestimate the power of your phone to keep you entertained.
It’s not exactly Alienware but it’s still capable of giving you entertaining
videogames (especially if you have a lot of space in your phone and can
download high quality games) that should keep you awake for an hour or two.
Today, I present to you my Top 5 phone games for passing time. Please keep in
mind that this is my personal opinion, so please don’t rampage me with hate.
Geometry
Dash by RobTop
Oh looooook, everybody’s favorite game (maybe), Geometry Dash. How
generic. Well, disregarding my prejudgement, this is still is a good way to
waste a few hours of your life. This game originally was a game for PC, but the
phone version is just as good. But I have a confession to make, people… The
game’s full version… is not free. I know right! I’ll leave you alone and you
can cry in the corner all you want for now. But seriously though, the full
version is worth $0.99. It's worth it, just buy it. Oh, wait what’s that? Your
overprotective parents won’t allow you to buy it? I’m sorry man… I feel you…
Well, another reason to cry in the corner.
You done sobbing? Ok. In case you haven’t heard of this game before,
it is basically a 2D game wherein you play levels and jump over obstacles like
spikes, etc., while some good music (not Adele or Justin Beaver) like dubstep,
electro, etc. is playing. Boom, done.
I was just talking about the easy levels earlier. Eventually, as you
progress into the game, levels will, mark my word, get a lot more challenging.
Eventually it will get to a point when you won’t only be using your little icon
(or box, as I want to call it) to jump or your trusty rocket to fly, you’ll
also have balls (stop being so immature), waves, UFOs, robots, and, according
to RobTop, the game’s developer, a lot more to come in the upcoming updates.
Remember, Geometry Dash is a game which actually needs played with
some practice and mastery. Unlike the other games which you can actually play
and get a decent score at every time.
Just one last disclaimer: Try not to karate chop your device while
playing this game, because, no joke, this game is NOT for the wimps and
weaklings. As they call it, Geometry Dash is a rage game.
Now that’s just a sneak peek of Geometry Dash. I won’t want to spoil
the show for y’all. Come on, we still got 4 more games to discuss. Off to
Number 2 we have…
Magic Touch by Nitrome
Magic Touch is one of my favorite games made by one of my favorite
developers Nitrome. I personally think that the concept of this game is very
smart and creative. It is indeed an amazing way to kill time.
In Magic Touch, you basically play as a wizard trying to fight for his
life against monsters emerging from the sky. These monsters have balloons
attached to their back. In each of these balloons a symbol is written. To keep
poor ol’ wizard man alive, you need to draw these symbols on your screen before
these pathetic monsters reach your wizard. Eventually, the game speed gets
faster and faster as it gets much harder to properly draw the symbols displayed
in each balloon. There are times when new adversaries will appear, each one
harder to defeat than the last. You will keep attaining points by defeating
monsters with your legendary finger until these monsters reached you and are defeated by your enemies. In each
play, your goal is to beat your current high score, or in the case of newbies,
make one (duh).

This game has 2 game modes: Time Attack and Arcade Mode, the latter
having 3 smaller game modes namely, Zen, Classic, and Insane.
Once you get enough coin, you can buy additional wizards just in case
you get bored of good ol’ Papa Default Wizard. You can also buy spells which
you can draw from to eliminate multiple enemies, protect yourself from harm,
and a handful more of functions. You can also buy backgrounds in case you get
bored of good ol’ Default Setting. Aaaand that’s about it, moving on to number
3 we have…
Ultimate
Briefcase by Nitrome
And yet another beautiful game from Nitrome! Ultimate Briefcase is a
good time killer that never fails to entertain and satisfy me while I wait for
my Ramen in the nearby Japanese restaurant.
In Ultimate Briefcase, you play as a man (who, judging by his looks, is probably undergoing a serious mid-life crisis) named Tucker, who, really there’s no back story but all I know is that he looks like he’s just going to work. But then, suddenly, nukes starts pouring out of the sky, as if they were headed right for poor little default main protagonist. Now your job is to keep this man alive by dodging these nukes. Try your hardest to not hit one of the nukes, because once you do, kapoosh, game over! However there are some rather friendly nukes who want to lend you a hand and give you a power boost. Keep dodging so you can rack up a good score, but since everything has to come to an end, you will die.

Just like Magic Touch, you can also buy more characters in Ultimate
Briefcase, in case you don’t want to play as our main manchild. You may also
buy items which should guarantee you a headstart.
Now that’s about it for Ultimate briefcase, moving in to Number 4 we
have…
Dunkers by Colin Lane
Dunkers is a game for all you half-sporty half-nerds out there. Take
the name literally. Dunkers is a 2D retro style game wherein you play 1v1
basketball against some bizarre characters which you can unlock and play as
well. Although there is one twist: No lay-ups, 3 pointers, 2 pointers or
whatever. Curry can kiss his 3 pointers in his sleep while he tries to play
this game, ‘cause I’m talking about SLAM DUNKS here! There also are no means of
movement in this game aside from jumping, so I guess you can say that you’ll
need to get a proper ‘JUMPSTART’ to win this game, eh? Haha! Funny puns, funny
puns! So funny, right?! HAHA! HAHAHAHA!!! Hahahaha! Haha!... Haha… Ha… ha… Okay
I’ll stop…

This game also has 2 game modes, namely, Arcade, wherein you just play
ordinary ‘Dunkers’ games and try to build up your high score, or Career mode,
where you try to beat characters set up by the game in chronological order,
until you reach the final and hardest to beat character of the game.
And one more thing, this game has one of the best soundtracks ever!
I love this game! It is a wise choice to play when you have nothing
else to do. Finally, moving on to the last game, we have…
Steppy Pants by Super Entertainment
I have officially given up on humanity, people. You know what Steppy
Pants is? A walking simulator. Yeah. You read it right. A game that simulates
walking. I thought that the biggest disgrace to society was me but never mind, I’ve found my contender.
image from: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/9QsRth_n4bA/maxresdefault.jpg
Just kidding man. Steppy Pants is a very addictive game. It isn’t just
some walking simulator. It’s actually something that puts your skills to the
test. The instructions are simple: Tap the screen to take a step, but avoid the
cracks because if you step on them, game over. Simple, right? But the real
challenge lies in the game’s mastery. Sooner or later, these so called cracks
will be more complex and your stepping space will be more cramped than ever.
Eventually, you’ll have to just step on a crack and die, but after that is a
ray of sunshine. And by “ray of sunshine” I mean CLOTHES! One of my most
favorite features in this game is the amount of random clothes your character
can wear. You can dress up as a mentally challenged elephant pirate, an anime
fan who recently escaped an insane asylum, an alien-fighting Smurf and so much
more! This game also boasts of some funny ragdoll physics. You can watch your
character fly away as he accidentally steps on TNT! Aside from that, this game
also has few other cool features which are worth a check, so I really recommend
installing this wonderful game to your phone. It’s a good way to pass time and
it won’t fail in entertaining you. It may even give you a little kettle laugh.
So, there you have it folks! Do you agree with my list? Be sure to
check out all these games because they really are A-OK! Till next time, my
friend. Happy new day!
~Luis
